MATTY Hill held his nerve to be crowned champion of this year's Barrow Individual Snooker League with a 7-6 win over Danny Macdonald in the final.

The competition decider at the Soccer Bar was played in front of a packed venue and saw over £5,000 raised for Emily Mather at the league's charity event.

The final itself saw Hill win on the colours after a cagey start, only for Macdonald to quickly find his feet and establish a 4-1 lead at the interval.

Breaks of 30-plus and 40-plus helped Macdonald win frames two and three respectively, followed by his steady potting and safety play sealing the fourth.

Hill led the way in the fifth, but Macdonald stormed back to snatch it on the pink and black to lead at the break.

He moved within two frames of victory when play resumed, but Hill started a fightback and a couple of 30-plus breaks helped him close the deficit to 5-3.

A break of 55 saw Macdonald go one frame away from clinching the tile, only for Hill to clear up on the colours to narrow the gap to two again.

He then went on an impressive run, making it 6-5 after another cagey frame and then forcing a decider after Macdonald missed match ball on the brown and the green.

Predictably, the final frame went right down to the last black and Hill potted it to complete the comeback, taking the trophy and the £600 first prize.
