Ellis Archer’s astonishing 40-point haul, including six tries and eight goals, helped Roose Pioneers under-15s to a massive 62-4 victory away at Leyland Warriors in the North West Counties Youth League last Sunday.

Pioneers dominated proceedings throughout and after Josh Cohen’s try had opened their account, Archer ran in a 20-minute hat-trick to back up the treble he claimed against Ashton Bears Blacks the previous week.

The visitors continued their relentless march as Archer turned provider for Tom Farren before Roberts fell over the line to make the score 34-0 at half-time.

Leyland’s defence improved in the second half, but Roose struck again through Young and Hadwin before Archer was set up by Alfie Coxon to claim his fourth try of the afternoon.

With the score up to 52-0, the hosts finally troubled the scoresheet before Archer inevitably had the last word with two more scores to complete his amazing haul.

It was also a good afternoon for Hindpool Tigers under-14s, as they recorded a 34-8 victory at home to Dalton in the Barrow & District League, while in the same division, Roose Pioneers were handsome 48-10 winners against Askam.

In the under-12s league, Askam turned the tables on the Pioneers by thrashing them 46-6, with Hindpool Tigers also running out clear-cut winners, as they defeated Dalton 32-8 on their own patch.

It was a much tighter affair between Walney Central and Ulverston, with the hosts eventually edging the contest 26-20, while Millom were impressive in defeating Barrow Island 24-10 on their travels.
