Barrow AFC’s injury crisis has eased slightly this week, with defender Jack Barthram and striker Dior Angus ready to return for tomorrow’s home game against Boreham Wood.

Both players were forced to come off with ankle injuries during the Bluebirds’ match at Wrexham two weeks ago, in Barthram’s case just a matter of minutes after coming on as substitute.

Centre-back Sam Hird is also available to start against the Wood, after being fit enough to make the bench for last Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Harrogate Town.

As a result, AFC’s injured list is down to six players, with club captain Josh Granite, Brian Wilson, Connor Brown, Rhys Turner, Jacob Blyth and Christian Sloan remaining on the sidelines.

Manager Ian Evatt said: “Josh Granite is close to coming back – he’s returning to training on Monday.

“I think Rhys Turner is not far behind that, Jacob is not far behind that, as is Connor Brown, so sooner or later, we’ll have more or less everyone available.”

Hird’s return means Evatt could move Jason Taylor back into midfield after the stand-in skipper filled in admirably as part of the back three, alongside Kyle Jameson and Dan Jones, in Barrow’s last three games.

However, given how well Steven Jennings has stepped into the breach in the engine room in the meantime, it isn’t the most straightforward of choices to be made for the visit of Luke Garrard’s side.

Evatt said: “Jason has done very well in the middle of the three – he’s played and organised really well and Steven Jennings has come into the middle of the park and helped us build attacks and play football through the lines.

“Both of them have played really well in their positions of late.

“It’s always tough when we’ve got people available and we’ve got some very good players.

“We’ll have a look at it, we’ll sit back and analyse and we’ll pick a team that we think will win the game on Saturday.”
