After coming so close to what would have been a sensational promotion to the Football League last season, Boreham Wood will be keen to avoid a dramatic conclusion to this campaign.

That is because a run of just one win in their last 15 games means, with six matches of the season left, the Wood are languishing in 20th place in the National League table and not yet safe from relegation.

In fairness, they do have a seven-point buffer between them and fourth-from-bottom Havant & Waterlooville and they gave a very encouraging performance when they faced promotion-chasing Solihull Moors on Tuesday night.

Luke Garrard’s side twice fell behind at Meadow Park – the second time to former Barrow AFC striker Adi Yussuf – but eventually earned a deserved point thanks to Idris Kanu’s 88th-minute equaliser.

They’ll now be making the 270-mile-plus journey from Hertfordshire looking to build on that to Holker Street, and Garrard is imploring as many Wood fans to make the long trip to Holker Street as possible.

He told the club’s YouTube page after the Solihull game: “It’ll probably be a minibus, or two minibuses, but whoever goes up there, honestly trust me I’ll be very thankful.

“I’ll come and greet you when you get there and just give your all because I’m going to ask this lot to mirror you, mirror me and mirror the chairman because we need some fight at this club.

“We need to make sure that we’re all pulling in the same direction and I felt tonight you could be proud of that team.”

Boreham Wood have picked up only three away wins all season and they’ve really struggled to replace the goals of Bruno Andrade and Angelo Balanta, who fired them into the play-offs last year.

Their top scorer is Justin Shaibu, with seven, although they’ve started to find the net more regularly in the last month.

Without wanting to jinx things, they’ve yet to defeat Barrow in seven attempts in the league.
