MIKE Smith secured this year's Fred Collins three-man snooker competition for British Legion A in the Barrow Friday League.

Smith won the deciding frame to secure a 2-1 victory for the team, who were up against clubmates British Legion in the final.

The first game brought captain Alf Carruthers and Colin Taylor table together, with the former leading all the way up the table and securing a 64-40 win when Taylor conceded after Carruthers potted the pink.

Second to the table were Kevin Quinn and Jack Arnold, with the former coming out the better to level the match in a game which featured a lot of safety but saw Quinn win 43-33 on the pink.

The last game brought the other captain, Allan Edmondson, and Smith together.

Edmonson took an early lead, but small breaks saw Smith retake the lead and stay in front for most of the game.

A snooker by Smith on the last red led to Edmondson snookering himself and giving eight points, with Smith potting the small colours to win 63-48 and the trophy.
