ULVERSTON Sunflowers were celebrating after they returned from the Cumbria Walking Netball Festival triumphant.

The team were one of five from across the county taking part in the tournament at Kirkby Lonsdale, with each side playing four matches each in a round robin competition.

Ulverston managed to win all four of their matches and ended the day top of the standings, which ensured they were crowned champions.

"The ladies were delighted to be playing at such a great venue with others teams from across the county," said coach Hannah Paling.

"Winning the competition was an added bonus and, as you can imagine, made their day."

Walking netball is one of a growing number of walking sports and has been designed so anyone can play regardless of fitness level.

There are several rule modifications, such as players are only allowed to walk instead of run, being able to take two steps with the ball instead of one and being allowed four seconds with the ball instead of three. No jumping is allowed either.

The sport is open to all, from those who have dropped out of netball due to injury to former players wanting to stay involved and people looking for a way to get active.

Session are held at Ulverston Leisure Centre and for more information, contact Hannah via email at hannah.paling@gll.org.
