Barrow AFC manager Ian Evatt was happy with what he felt was another good performance away from home from his side, after their 0-0 draw at Dagenham & Redbridge.

The familiar tale of not making the most of their opportunities was what held the Bluebirds back from picking up their third away win in a row, while the Daggers also had to defend well to keep them at bay.

The football they played in the first half at Victoria Road was as free-flowing and controlled as we’ve come to expect from Evatt’s team this season, who were looking to bounce back from last week’s disappointment against Boreham Wood.

Things were more even after the break, but with the back three, including the returning Josh Granite, keeping control, it was still AFC who looked more likely to force a breakthrough, which unfortunately didn’t come.

Evatt said: “I thought in the first half we were exceptional, to be honest. I thought we dominated the game from the start, we created a number of good situations.

“We should have been in the lead at half-time, but we weren’t.

“In the second half, they obviously tweaked things around a bit, changed shape, tried to put more pressure on the ball and we just didn’t quite problem-solve quickly enough on the pitch.

“Sometimes in the second half, while the game’s going, it’s hard for us to get the messages on from the side, as to what we need to do, so the players have to problem-solve themselves and we didn’t quite do that quickly enough.

“We did it probably in the last ten or 15 minutes where they were on a high press and we just had to flip it in behind them for Jamie [Philpot] to run on to, which we had two or three good opportunities to win the game at the end.

“But, all in all, it’s a positive result, it’s a clean sheet and again it’s an excellent performance.”
