CHAMPIONS British Legion booked their place in the final of this year's Barrow Friday League billiards play-off with a 2-1 win over Navy Club B.

This week's first round of semi-finals pitted the league leaders against the fourth-place finishers.

The game between captains Allan Edmondson and Ian Large saw the former being the first to score with a 24 break, followed by him adding another 23 break a few shots later.

That left Navy skipper Large trailing by 40 points and consistent small breaks saw Edmondson shoot up the table, eventually running out 100-21 winner.

Brian Sharp got Navy back on level terms after beating Kevin Quinn in a close-fought second game.

Small breaks saw him open up a 17-point lead, but Quinn hit back with a 15 break.

Another 21 break increased the Navy man's lead and consistent, small breaks led to him taking the game 100-81.

It was down to Colin Taylor and Ian Goodwin in the decider and the former took an early lead, staying approximately 20 points in front for most of first half.

Goodwin rallied though, catching up with a good 15 break to level the game at 65-65. Then both players went on into the nineties with small breaks.

But with Goodwin wanting just three to win the race to 100, Taylor rallied with a 14 break to run out 100-97 and secure the win for Legion.

The first darts semi-final saw British Legion A up against Barrow Football Supporters Club and although the Soccer Bar team took an early lead, it was one-way traffic the rest of the game.

Mike Fletcher (140, 100) got the ball rolling for BFSC, but Keith Moscrop hit back for Legion A in the second match.

Moscrop (133, 2x100) then won his second match of the night to put Legion A into a lead they would not relinquish, with Alan Fraser (2x100), Dave Macmillan, Tony Macmillan (121) and Mala McCoy all triumphing.

Roose Cons are into the welch don final too after edging out Legion A 6-5.
