JAKE Carter is set to make his Whitehaven bow in the intense atmosphere of a Cumbrian derby after joining the Betfred League One club on a one-month loan from Barrow Raiders.

The former Barrow Island and Furness Raiders half-back goes straight into the squad for the clash with Workington Town at Derwent Park this afternoon, while his parent club prepare to host Toronto Wolfpack in the Betfred Championship.

With Jamie Dallimore and Lewis Charnock firmly established as Barrow's half-back partnership, Carter has taken the opportunity to move up the coast to get some minutes under his belt after being impressed with what he has seen from head coach Gary Charlton's Haven side.

"I've been down to watch a few games and have seen they are doing really well in the league," said Carter in a video posted on Whitehaven's Twitter account.

"I was down on the other Sunday against Hunslet and I thought it (a 16-12 win) was a really good team performance.

"I spoke to Gary and Jonty (Gorley, assistant coach), and there was an opportunity.

"They were after a half-back and I'm struggling for a bit of game-time in Barrow, so I thought I'd get down, play a few games and I'm really looking forward to it."

He joins former Raiders player Ruairi McGoff, Millomite James Newton, and ex-Askam amateurs Tom Wilkinson and Sam Dowsett in the 19-man squad for the derby.

Meanwhile, Barrow welcome back Papua New Guinea winger Stargroth Amean back into their 19-man squad for this afternoon's match with Championship leaders Toronto at Craven Park.

Amean has been missing in recent weeks due to injury and is joined in the squad by back row Jordan Walne, who missed the defeat at Leigh Centurions. However, Tom Walker misses out due to work commitments.
