Barrow failed to build on the great win over Bradford last weekend, losing once more on the road.

Hopes were high of a second successive victory as Barrow headed to the Capital and the home of Wimbledon FC, but it wasn’t to be as they remain in the bottom two of the Championship.

The early exchanges were even as both teams struggled to settle, but it was Barrow who were to take a 6-0 lead on 11 minutes shortly after Wellington Albert lost possession with the line at his mercy.

Barrow settled going upfield on the back of a tap penalty, and it was a neat chip through from Ryan Johnston that enabled Luke Broadbent to swoop and dot the ball down, Ryan Shaw’s touchline kick sailed between the posts 0-6.

Josh Wood on his return from suspension was involved with some good defensive work, but it was the Broncos who put points on the board on 24 minutes.

Former Barrow player Dean Parata set the ball in motion, and Ethan Natoli was on hand to cross the white-wash, the conversion attempt from Oli Leyland came back off the posts 4-6. Oli Leyland then tested Luke Creswell with a dangerous high kick, but the full back took the ball safely.

Jarred Bassett was then guilty of trying to force a pass with the Barrow line at his mercy. The Raiders survived but then conceded a second try as Alex Walker sent Oli Leyland in for a try to which he converted 10-6.

Then disaster for Barrow from the re-start, Jarrod Sammut’s kick failed to go the required ten yards, from the tap penalty the Broncos raced downfield for Illiess Mancini to score, Leyland adding the goal from the touchline 16-6 at the break.

However, Barrow got the dream start to the second half after London had lost possession in their own half. Barrow built pressure through Johnston and debutant Leigh loan player Keenan Brand of Love Island fame, and Shaw went in at the corner, Shaw failing to convert but a ray of hope for Barrow at 16-10.

However, the visitors were down to 12 men with Johnston sent to the sin bin after a skirmish with Lovalli. Adding to the punishment was another try for the Broncos as Leyland skipped through the cover to score and convert 22-10. The game went away from Barrow as Bassett touched down for Leyland to convert 28-10. Barrow rallied in the closing stages and a Johnston 40-20 saw the Raiders on attack with skipper Jarrad Stack going close along with Charlie Emslie.

However, they were rewarded, when Danny Langtree went in for his 99th career try and fourth of the season for Barrow, Shaw tagged on the extra two points 28-16. Leyland closed the scoring with a late penalty goal 30-16.

Barrow now have a week off before meeting Whitehaven at York in a crucial game at the Summer Bash.
