THREE wickets apiece for Ross Bretherton and Andrew Jacques helped skittle Barrow out for just 66 as they slumped to a 151-run defeat away to Leyland in their Northern League encounter.

The visitors were made to field first after losing the toss, and an unbeaten 105 from Umar Waheed helped Leyland make 217 for 8 from their 50 overs.

The home side were kept in check by Daryl Wearing and Ryan Gilmour though, with the former taking 3 for 43 from 10 overs, including four maidens, and the latter backing that up with 3 for 44 from 11 overs as only three other Leyland batsmen made double figures.

However, Bretherton and Jacques tore through Barrow's batting line-up in the reply, with Robin Adams (13), Wearing (14) and Jordan Nicholson (13) the only men to avoid being dismissed for single-figure tallies as the away side were skittled out in 31.1 overs.

Barrow will aim to rebound from that defeat when they welcome second-placed Blackpool to Ernest Pass on Saturday.
