EVERYTHING will be awesome at Pennington Lane as Lindal Moor CC host a special eight-a-side cricket tournament.

The Awesome 8s, on Sunday, will feature eight teams taking to the field for a series of fast-paced matches involving both new and experienced players.

The event will raise money for the RNLI, and organiser James Connolly is hoping for a big turnout.

“This is the first time we've organised something like this, but we are hoping for good weather and a successful day,” he said.

“There'll be an all-day barbeque, real ales and ciders, a bouncy castle, plus games and coaching for children. This is all in addition to the action on the pitch of course.”

The hope is there will be cricketers on the field from the local area who are not used to taking part, with the level of experience they have not relevant.

Connolly added: “We're looking for eight community teams. We want to bring cricket to occasional players who may not have had chance to try the game before. We'll be providing all the equipment, so teams can just turn and play.”

The entry fee of £40 per team covers food, prizes and a donation to the RNLI.

Connolly said: “The RNLI is a cause close to our hearts, as we have a number of players who volunteer at the Barrow lifeboat station, therefore we’ll be doing everything we can to raise money for them during the day with collections and raffles alongside the cricket club's donation.”
